People Spotlight: Thomas Nicolson, Partner

September 18, 2026

At Bonham & Brook, our people are what set us apart, and Thomas’s story is a powerful example of what’s possible when conviction meets the right environment to build in. From founding a newspaper in Ecuador to becoming a Partner at B&B, Thomas has built his career on the belief that infrastructure, trust, and reputation are things you construct from scratch, not things you inherit.

His Journey at Bonham & Brook

Thomas studied English and Politics before beginning his career in journalism, work that took him to Ecuador, where he founded a newspaper from the ground up. “If you believe you can do something, you can do whatever you want,” he says of the mindset that experience instilled in him. He went on to write and research for a financial and legal publication, interviewing law firm partners along the way, early experience that sharpened the stakeholder skills he’d go on to rely on for the rest of his career.

Thomas moved from a competitor firm into Bonham & Brook at a formative time for the business, drawn by the opportunity to help shape a young company’s approach to the market rather than simply fit into an existing one. He spent four years as Head of Partnerships, using his existing network to build a partnerships function from scratch, before being promoted to Partner. “It felt like starting a business again,” he says of that step up.

Challenges

One of the most important arcs in Thomas’s journey at B&B has been learning to take accountability, even when it is uncomfortable. “You have to be willing to absorb negative energy without becoming defensive,” he explains. Owning problems rather than deflecting them, he says, is what builds a reputation as the reliable person in the room, someone people trust to sort things out.

Achievements

As Partner, Thomas splits his focus across four equal pillars: growth, partnerships, his client list, and his personal brand, each one, in his view, feeding into the others. One relationship stands out as a defining project: a four-year partnership with Middlesex County Cricket Club that became a strategic entry point into the sports sector, eventually opening doors to major sports brands. “It shows what’s possible when you treat a client relationship as the start of something bigger, not just a transaction,” he says. Today, he’s proud to help maintain a client list of over one hundred active, satisfied clients, a number he sees as a reflection of the team around him as much as his own efforts.

Culture

Thomas points to B&B’s culture as genuinely rare. “People actually want to be around each other here,” he says, recalling a weekly cricket match where opposing players were surprised to learn the B&B team were colleagues rather than a group of friends who happened to play together. He credits the business’s human-led approach, prioritising real engagement over automation, as a key differentiator that clients consistently respond to.

Advice for new starters

Thomas’s advice for anyone starting out at B&B is to think long term. “Invest properly over a two-to-six-year horizon, and what you put in will correlate with what you get out,” he says. He also encourages new starters to be proactively responsive, even on things outside their direct remit, sincethat kind of reliability compounds into real trust over time.

Looking Ahead and Personal Reflections

Thomas credits founders Haran, Dom, and Raed as pivotal figures in his own development, describing his personal growth, particularly around patience, emotional intelligence, and responding rather than reacting, as something that’s matured alongside the company itself. Outside of work, he’san avid cook, known for his hearty dishes like lasagna and bolognese, and spends much of his downtime reading history and going deep on subjects he’s passionate about.
