People Spotlight: Kieran James Hughes, Business Development Manager

His Journey at Bonham & Brook

Kieran studied Business and Financial Management at Sheffield, where a placement year at Enterprise Rent-A-Car gave him his first real grounding in sales. When it came to choosing where to build his career, he passed over safer, more established offers in favour of Bonham & Brook’s Manchester office, then still new. “I saw more room to grow here than I would somewhere already set in its ways,” Kieran says of that decision.

That bet has paid off. Over five years, Kieran has earned five promotions, along with SDR of the Year and BD of the Year honours. He credits the team culture as a big part of that, one that’s stayed friendly even as it’s become more goal driven and structured since Matthew Davidson joined as manager. Leadership support has been a constant throughout too, including guidance from B&B Managing Director Raed, that’s gone beyond work itself to focus on him as a person. “It was never just about hitting targets. People here genuinely invested in me, not just my output,” Kieran says.

Challenges

Sales naturally comes with peaks and troughs, and Kieran has learned to focus on consistency and bouncing back rather than dwelling on the quieter periods. “You’re not always going to be at your best, and that’s fine, what matters is how quickly you get back to it,” he says. He credits Matthew Davidson for raising standards and accountability within the team without tipping into a blame culture, alongside genuine support from colleagues and leadership during harder personal or professional stretches.

Achievements

Kieran’s proudest achievements go beyond any single deal. Five promotions in five years reflect consistent, sustained performance, recognised further by both SDR of the Year and BD of the Year honours along the way. Beyond the results themselves, Kieran has developed a genuine ability to spot where clients can benefit from more than one of B&B’s services, helping increase the value he’s able to deliver across R&D and energy engagements alike. “Staying five years and still growing says as much about Bonham & Brook as it does about me,” he adds.

Culture

For Kieran, what sets B&B apart isn’t just the results, but how the business goes about achieving them. B&B works with genuine depth of sector expertise, including specialists who’ve come from HMRC itself, and operates on a success-based model minimising risk on the client side. “People have a certain image of sales, but this job genuinely helps businesses,” Kieran says. For him, that’s what makes the work feel worthwhile rather than transactional; easing cost pressure for companies that need it most, helping them re-invest in innovation, and by extension helping the UK economy thrive. “We’re not in it for a single transaction; we’re building a relationship with our clients that last for years,” he adds.
