People Spotlight: Christopher Mongan, Senior SDR Manager

At Bonham & Brook, our people are what set us apart, and Christopher's story is a great example of why. Nearly five and a half years in, he has grown from Senior Sales Development Representative to Senior SDR Manager, and he is just as proud of the promotions he has helped others earn as he is of his own

His Journey at Bonham & Brook

Chris studied Business and Enterprise Management at university, a degree he chose because management was always something he could see himself doing. Alongside his studies he worked as a supervisor in a retail shop, where he discovered how much he enjoyed working with, and leading, small teams. After graduating, he set his sights on sales and spent two years at a specialist R&D tax firm, where he learned the market.

He joined Bonham & Brook when a former colleague, who knew his work, recommended him for the business and the progression it offered. Because Bonham & Brook operated in the same market, the move was a smooth one, and he has been building his career here ever since. "I just wanted to work for a smaller business who valued their employees more personally," he says of the decision.

Challenges

For Chris, the biggest challenge is keeping a sales team motivated through the natural ups and downs of the job. "When you aren't getting through to anyone and you aren't having good conversations, it can sometimes feel a bit flat," he explains. As a manager, he sees it as his job to pick people up and remind them they have done it before and can do it again. "You're only as good as your last month," he says, so morale never stops being a priority.

On a personal level, it is about balance. Chris carries his own targets while developing his team, so he works to make sure he is hitting his numbers while helping the people around him hit theirs.

Achievements

Reaching five years at the business is an achievement Chris counts as his own. What he is proudest of, though, is the people he has developed. More than five members of his teams have been promoted internally from Sales Development Representative to Business Development Manager, a track record his colleagues have nicknamed "Chris's Academy". "I know what's expected of people in the role and what they need to do to get to where they want to go," he says. He is also proud of consistently hitting both his personal and office targets over recent years.

Culture

Chris has watched Bonham & Brook grow, from a small team of three when he joined to a business with multiple offices and a growing range of services. Through all of it, he points to the people as the constant. "I actually look forward to going into work," he says. "It's fun, it's challenging, and we're all there to support each other." He describes a diverse team where everyone brings something different, and where having good people alongside you makes the tough days easier, because "you can bounce off each other."

Looking Ahead and Personal Reflections

This year, Chris has taken on a new challenge: running the full sales cycle himself, from booking meetings to sitting in front of clients and closing the deal. "It's newish to me, but newish in a good way, because it's challenging me," he says. Alongside that, he is focused on helping the members of his team progress to Senior SDR, and he is keen to keep progressing himself.

That focus on growth shapes the advice he gives to anyone joining Bonham & Brook. "Never shy away from asking questions. No question is a stupid question," he says. He encourages new starters to learn from colleagues who are progressing well in the business, and to listen to their managers, who know how to get the best out of people. Above all, he comes back to the basics. "You can teach skill set, but you can't teach hard work," he says. "In any role across the business, hard work outweighs skill set."

Outside of work, Chris is a keen golfer, plays snooker and the odd game of padel, and enjoys the gym. Spending time with friends and family comes first, followed closely by holidays and a good meal out. A proud Mancunian and big Manchester United fan, he is rarely far from the football.
