Meaningful Conversations: An Interview with Sayinthen Vivekanantham

January 3, 2025

Bonham & Brook are proud to partner with Homey – an innovative platform that allows clients, agents and lawyers to complete conveyancing transactions all in one place.

We caught up with Say, CEO of Homey Technology to get his insights into life, work and play…

Say, please start by introducing yourself and telling us more about what Homey do?

I’m Sayinthen Vivekanantham, founder of Homey—a user-centred platform that streamlines property transactions by connecting estate agents, solicitors, and clients for better communication and visibility. Homey automates processes, reduces delays, and provides specialized tools to speed up transactions, making conveyancing 50% faster and doubling revenue per solicitor.

What has got you to where you are today?

My journey began as a medical doctor, but my passion for property development led me to build a small property portfolio. This experience revealed inefficiencies in the property transaction process, inspiring me to create solutions that enhance collaboration between estate agents and conveyancers.

Has there been a defining moment or turning point in your career so far?

A defining moment in my career was transitioning from medicine to prop-tech entrepreneurship. Identifying the challenges in property transactions and deciding to address them through technology marked a significant turning point, leading to the creation of Homey.

What’s the biggest risk you have taken professionally, and did it pay off?

The biggest professional risk I’ve taken was leaving a stable medical career to venture into the prop-tech industry. This leap into entrepreneurship, driven by a desire to innovate in property transactions, has been rewarding, culminating in the development of Homey.

What was your childhood dream job?

As a child, I dreamed of becoming a doctor, a goal I achieved before transitioning into the tech industry to address challenges in property transactions.

Do you believe in good luck, or good preparation?

I believe that good preparation creates opportunities that may appear as good luck. Diligent planning and readiness are essential for success.

Who do you turn to for advice, and what’s the biggest piece of wisdom you’ve received?

I turn to mentors and industry experts for advice. The most impactful wisdom I’ve received is to embrace change and continuously seek improvement, which has been instrumental in my entrepreneurial journey.

What is the first thing you think about in the morning?

Each morning, I think about the day’s objectives and how to drive Homey’s mission forward, focusing on enhancing efficiency in property transactions.

What attracted you to working in conveyancing tech?

My interest in conveyancing tech was sparked by firsthand experience with the inefficiencies in property transactions. The opportunity to create solutions that simplify and expedite these processes attracted me to this field.

You are all about creating solutions for people going through one of the most stressful things in life. What’s the most challenging part of property transactions and how does Homey aid that pain point?

Property transactions are often stressful due to poor communication and lack of transparency. Homey addresses these challenges by connecting all parties involved, automating processes, and providing real-time updates, thereby reducing delays and enhancing client relationships.

How do you unwind after a particularly stressful day?

After a stressful day, I unwind by spending quality time with family and engaging in physical activities, which help me relax and recharge.

When recruiting for Homey, are there any personal attributes or skills that you particularly look for when interviewing new team members?

When recruiting for Homey, I look for individuals who are adaptable, innovative, and possess a strong understanding of the property tech industry. Skills in technology and a passion for improving client experiences are particularly valuable.

Is there a common misconception that people make about you or your industry that frustrates you?

A common misconception is that the property industry is resistant to change. This perception can be frustrating, as there is significant potential for innovation and improvement through technology.

Homey’s ethos is ‘lighting fast’ – if you could make any other process either in work or outside of work faster, what would it be and why?

If I could make any other process faster, it would be the adoption of technology in traditional industries, to enhance efficiency and client satisfaction.

If you could only eat one type of cuisine for the rest of your life, what would it be and why?

If I could only eat one type of cuisine for the rest of my life, it would be Italian, for its rich flavours and variety.

If someone made a movie about your life, who would play you? And what would the film soundtrack be?

If a movie were made about my life, I would be portrayed by an actor who embodies resilience and innovation. The soundtrack would feature inspiring and motivational music, reflecting the journey of entrepreneurship.

If you could invite 3 people (dead or alive) to a dinner party, who would they be and why?

Elon Musk: For his visionary approach to technology and innovation.

Marie Curie: To discuss her groundbreaking contributions to science.

Nelson Mandela: For his leadership and insights on resilience and change.

Do you have a favourite saying or mantra that you live by?

A favourite mantra I live by is: “Innovation distinguishes between a leader and a follower.”

What is your biggest aspiration for 2025?

My biggest aspiration for 2025 is to expand Homey’s reach, making property transactions more efficient and stress-free for a broader audience, and to continue driving innovation in the prop-tech industry.
