Her Journey at Bonham & Brook
Shannon joined Bonham & Brook to focus on energy tax consultancy, a niche area at the intersection of industry, policy, and commercial strategy. From the start, her role was client-facing and commercially driven, requiring both technical expertise and relationship-building with manufacturing businesses.
She quickly discovered the entrepreneurial spirit of the firm, “If you see an opportunity and can prove it works, you’re given the space to build something around it.” Over time, Shannon’s role expanded from serving individual clients to shaping the entire energy product and strategy. She trained sales teams, designed campaigns, built partnerships, and worked closely with leadership. A proud milestone was helping grow the energy offering into a major revenue stream for the firm.
Beyond technical knowledge, Shannon gained unexpected skills in leadership and strategy, learning to influence across teams, build commercial structures, and inspire others with a vision.
Challenges, Achievements, and Culture
Introducing new ideas in established areas was one of Shannon’s biggest challenges, “When you’re pushing for change you sometimes have to prove it first before others buy into it”, noting that staying focused on delivering results consistently, inspires people to follow in your footsteps.
Her proudest achievements are the tangible impacts, helping manufacturing businesses unlock significant savings that fuel reinvestment and sustainability.
She describes Bonham & Brook’s culture as performance-driven yet supportive, “People are trusted to run with ideas and take responsibility for outcomes.” Senior leadership’s confidence in her judgement was pivotal, while collaboration with consultancy and sales teams shaped her approach to commercial strategy and delivery.
Her work has contributed to making energy a cornerstone of the firm’s growth, supporting energy-intensive businesses, helping them stay competitive, and strengthening the wider economy.
Looking Ahead and Personal Reflections
Shannon is excited about expanding the energy offering into something much bigger. Energy policy, industry and sustainability are evolving quickly, and there’s huge demand for expertise in this space.
Equally, she looks forward to developing the next generation of team members who will carry the vision forward.
On a personal level, Shannon has grown into a confident leader, “Early in my career I focused mainly on delivering good work. Now I think much more about the bigger picture, how to build something sustainable, how to develop people around me, and how to create long-term impact rather than just short-term wins.”
Her advice to new joiners: “Take the time to really understand the schemes and the industries we work with… And don’t be afraid to ask questions or challenge assumptions.”
In other words, knowledge is power, investing in being an expert in your field will propel you forward.
